Word Guesser for Android (com.hrbons.wordguesser)
The short version
Word Guesser has no accounts, no ads, no trackers and no analytics. Nothing about you is collected, profiled or sold. The app talks to the network for three things only, all listed below, and two of them only happen if you choose them.
What stays on your device
Your statistics, streak, coin balance, chosen language, word length and settings are stored in the app's own preferences file on the device. They never leave it, and they are deleted when you uninstall the app.
The app allows Android's own backup, so this file can be included in a device backup you have enabled with Google — which is what carries your statistics to a new phone. That backup is governed by Google's terms, not by this app; turn it off in Android's settings if you would rather it did not happen.
What leaves your device
- Word lists. Choosing a language downloads that language's word list from this site's own host on GitHub Pages. Downloading a file means the host sees the request — that is an ordinary web request and it carries no identifier this app made up. The list is then cached offline and not fetched again.
- Leaderboard scores, if you submit one. After a daily puzzle or a timed sprint the app asks whether to publish your score. Only if you say yes does it send the name you type, the number of guesses and the time taken to a Google Firebase database, from where it is shown to other players. Skipping the question sends nothing. The name is yours to choose and does not have to be your real one — the leaderboard has no accounts and no way to link an entry to a person.
- Online duels, if you start one. A duel against another player exchanges a four-character room code, the target word and the guesses played, through the same database. The room is short-lived and carries nothing about you beyond those moves.
All three go over HTTPS; the app refuses plain HTTP outright. The Firebase database is hosted by Google in the EU (europe-west1) and, like any web service, it sees the IP address of the request.
Reporting a name
Reporting a leaderboard name sends the reported name, which board it is on and a category. It does not send who reported it — reports carry no identity at all. What happens next is in the content policy.
When the app hands you to another app
Looking up a word, sharing a result and opening the Ko-fi link all hand the action to an app you pick — a browser, a dictionary or assistant app, your messaging app. From that moment the other app's privacy policy applies, not this one. Word Guesser sends the word or the result grid and nothing else, and it never does this without you tapping it.
Children
The game is suitable for all ages and asks for no personal data. The one thing a player can publish is a leaderboard name, which is why the content policy asks that it not be a real name and gives a way to report one that should not be there.
